KIDNEY HEALTH, EXPLAINED

Dialysis care

Dialysis replaces part of the kidneys’ filtering work when they cannot do enough on their own. It also brings practical questions about treatment, daily routines, and how you feel between sessions.

Understanding your treatment

Haemodialysis filters blood through a machine outside the body. It removes waste and extra fluid, but does not replace every function of healthy kidneys.

Talking about everyday concerns

Your review can include how you feel during and after dialysis, blood pressure concerns, medicines, and questions about food or fluids. The plan depends on your individual treatment and health.

Questions you may have

Can I discuss tiredness or discomfort during dialysis?

Yes. Tell your dialysis team about symptoms during or after treatment. They can assess the cause and decide whether your treatment needs adjustment.

Do I need to change my dialysis schedule for a consultation?

Keep following your treating team’s prescribed schedule. A general consultation does not replace dialysis or instructions from your dialysis centre.

A few questions to start with

  • What should I tell my dialysis team about how I feel?
  • Who should I contact about treatment concerns?
  • How can my care fit better with everyday life?
